The Basics of Chakras

This information was put together with the help of Ash, a member of Tribe of the Sun and our resident Reiki Master. She splits her time between the African and Nordic paths.

Common sense warning, as always, please use a healthy dose of common sense and always seek medical treatment for any ailment.

What are Chakras?

Chakras are focus points that allow the subtle energies of our spiritual bodies to accumulate and assimilate as the energy moves within and through us. When a person's chakras are strong and balanced, their energy system will be balanced and healthy. When one or more of the chakras are out of balance or shut down completely, the body will manifest dis-ease with symptoms corresponding to the particular unbalanced chakra(s).

Traditional thought holds that there are 7 major chakras located at different points on the head and spinal column. There are also a multitude of other "minor" chakras throughout the rest of the body, including in the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.

Many of the deities themselves have energies that work well with one or more chakras. For instance, Yemaya works well with the heart chakra while Thor's energy corresponds with many attributes of the Solar Plexus. There are also many correlations with chakra work and gemstones, which is why the information was included under each particular stone.
