Herbalists used to prescribe damiana as a "sex tonic" however this plant is actually used to energize the central nervous system.

Medicinal Uses: Damiana is commonly used to treat depression and coughs. It also has a mild laxative effect. Traditionally, damiana is supposed to increase the sex drive, especially in women.
